Air source heat pumps differ from ground source heat pumps in that they absorb heat from the air outside. The heat gathered can be used to power radiators and underfloor heating systems or provide hot water.
Heat is extracted from the outside air in the same way that fridges extract heat from their insides. Even when the temperature outside is as low as -20°C, heat can be taken from the air. Heat pumps do require electricity in order to operate, however the heat they extract from their source is constantly and naturally renewed. A well-designed air source heat pump system should provide 3 to 4 units of free heat to every one unit of electricity it uses.
Why should I consider an air source heat pump?
Heat is delivered at a lower temperature over an extended period of time in order to deliver a consistent temperature. The heat is absorbed into a fluid which is then fed through a compressor. This is where the heat is increased and transferred to the heating and hot water system in your home.
To take the next step and install your own air source heat pumps, contact GreenStart Solar Solutions. We will advise you accordingly and carry out the full installation of your preferred heat pump. Undertaking all the paperwork involved in applying to the Feed-in Tariff or Renewable Heat Incentive takes the pressure off you and provides one point of contact in the unlikely event that a problem occurs.
